Japanese friend going back to Japan?

Thanks for wanting to find out how to connect your Japanese friend with Christians in Japan.

If your friend has become a Christian during their time abroad and now it is time to go home, this is likely to be a tough time for them.  Many young Christians find that the pressure to return to "normality" back in Japan is intense and so it will probably be very hard for them to keep going with their new Christian faith.  The pressure to conform to social norms in Japan is intense.  Parents, friends, relatives and fellow students or workers are likely (consciously or unconsciously) to make it tough to persevere.

Planning ahead can help a lot.  We have found that it can be helpful to link returnees up with good churches in Japan.  This is easier in the major cities and can be challenging in the countryside, where good churches are often few and far between.  Please contact us as soon as possible so that we can begin the search for a suitable church which is within striking distance.  We will need a location in Japan to work with, so please obtain this from your friend.  The more precise this is, the easier it will be to find a nearby church.

Thank you very much for the list of churches for me. It is really great, because the church I chose to go is one on the list! I am really happy with them and started making really good relationships with them already. I am lucky to be in this church which has a big heart! They really accept me as I am!

If your friend is a student, there are Christian students' organisations which might be helpful.  Again, please get in touch and let us know which university or college your friend is studying at / will be going to.  Be aware that there are many universities in the major cities, so we will need the precise name of the institution to be most helpful.

Finally, there are a number of organisations which arrange meetings of returnees to Japan to promote fellowship and encouragement.  Again, please contact us for information about meetings which may take place near your friend.

If your friend is still an enquirer we would be delighted to try to find a way to encourage them to continue to look into the gospel, please contact us.
